I did it! What a great experience to be considered an expert on a topic that I am passionate about. I started out my day with meeting other professional therapists and it filled my cup to be in the same room with people that just want to understand and help others.

I attended two break out sessions, one was on the enneagram and sex. An Enneagram is a personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. Based, on your number it correlates to how you view sex or how sex should be. Very interesting for relationships that want to deepen their intimacy and have a better sex life.
The second session I learned about the effects of alcohol and marital satisfaction. Findings show that if one partner is a heavy drinker and the other one is not, then it’s obvious there will be martial problems. However, if both partners are casual drinkers together, their martial satisfaction stays up. The take away from this is finding something healthy for couples to connect in. We are adults and alcohol does not always need to be taken away from the equation, unless of course it becomes a problem within the relationship, home and work life balance.
I learned a lot from others, but also was able to share the knowledge I have gained through the years. In my session about boundaries we were able to explore more of how this can apply in all areas of our lives. I really wanted other therapist to take away with them the skills to help our clients learn about self-care and reflection. Once we know ourselves, what we like and don’t like, then we can start being curious about others and build that empathy and compassion. Something I feel at times is lost within our society. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of people doing great things…but I am hoping that clients walk away with the skills to be better and do better.
